I’ve been a bit quiet recently, so I hope you had a wonderful holiday season!
My life got turned a little upside down 9 weeks ago when I received the phone call that we mothers fear ~ my son had been in a car accident.
It was a very rainy day that Wednesday in early December. My boys had gotten out early from school and had gone to lunch with friends. After lunch, my son Nick decided to go in his friend’s car since no one was riding with him. When they were about 5 minutes from home, the car hydroplaned, turning left into the on-coming traffic, and the passenger side took the hit.
Thank goodness my son Chris (Nick’s twin) was only a few cars behind and was able to stay by his side, because Nick was pinned in the car and they had to wait for the fire department and paramedics. It took the “jaws of life” to get him out.
When I arrived at the trauma center, what they knew was that he had broken his pelvis pretty badly. (OK, I thought, we can handle this.) But soon the results of the cat scan came ~ he had a brain bleed, fractured sternum, lacerations on his spleen and liver, and his pancreas was severed in half. (Oh, dear angels, help my sweet boy!) He was rushed to the surgical ICU for his first surgery.
And for 11 days I pretty much lived at the hospital. My husband and I took turns sleeping in Nick’s room. Our two other sons had to mostly parent themselves through that time.
So, now to the point of this newsletter ~ “The Power of Human Kindness”.
Word spread through our neighborhood and community. I had posted on Facebook asking for prayers and energetic assistance. I was amazed by the outpouring of Love and kindness! People brought meals to the house and care packages to the hospital. Even one of our youngest son’s teachers offered to walk our dog or run errands for us! (It brings tears to my eyes now thinking about all this kindness.) One of our “earth angels” was the mom of our boys’ friend, who is a nurse and used to work in that same ICU unit. She helped us stay calm, understand each procedure, what the test results meant, etc. She asked the staff to be sure to take good care of us.
People would comment about how strong I was being through all of this. I truly believe that so much of my strength came from being held up by all the Love and prayers and positive thoughts that so many people were sending. We continually got good news after surgeries, procedures and tests. It was like we were receiving little miracles each day! (The first miracle was that the pancreas was back together when they went in for the surgery.)
Nick still has more recovery to go through. He will be in a wheelchair till March. We’ve had numerous types of therapists coming to the house to do his rehab. I’ve been quite busy in my new role as caregiver!
And even though I’ve had my moments of overwhelm or sadness or stress, I’ve been able to stay positive. I am so grateful for all the heavenly angels and all the earth angels who are supporting me and loving me through this.
And that includes you! As I write this, I can feel your Light and your Love. So, I thank you!
At times like this, our faith in humanity is restored. People step forward, are loving, and they shine their beautiful Light. As I am held in this cocoon of Light, I find myself wanting to “pay it forward”. I have been at the store a couple of times when I was able to help someone out in a very simple and easy way, but it was so appreciated by them. It felt good to share a little kindness, since I have received so much!
May you receive some kindness today ~ whether it’s human kindness, or spiritual kindness…and preferably both!!
Sending prayers for continued healing and strength for all of you. What an ordeal! Here’s hoping for a quick recovery for your son.
Thank you so much, Sheila!
Bless you, your dear son, his twin, and all your family and all the loved ones in your circle. M
Thank you, Carmen, for your kindness!
I am praying that your son gets better soon and may god give you and your family strength.
Thank you, Surat! You are so kind!
